About

I began cutting my dev chops more than a decade ago, as an artist determined to build a portolio site. This first dip into development led to a hobby, the hobby led to a career. From Goose Island, Kraft and IBM to hospitals, schools and non-profits, I've collaborated with a variety of clients and teams. These days, I'm busy architecting the front-end for Threadless’ new platform, Artist Shops.

Skills

Semantic, accessible markup.
HTML that speaks to the content it holds. And enables reading tools to access web content properly and accurately. This is not the icing; this is the cake.
Savvy styling.
CSS that's lean, efficient and unstinky. BEM-y naming conventions that strike a balance between flexibility and descriptiveness. Sass that keeps code speedy and DRY, but not overly engineered.
Component systems.
Markup & style partnerships that are modular & independent. They can live anywhere, in any context, and hang on to their charm.
Modular, reusable JavaScript.
Module patterns that keep code clean & organized, built as jQuery plugins for simplicity, customizability and readability.
Future-friendliness.
Future-friendly, Responsive Web Design (RWD) that creates device-agnostic, fluid and sustainable sites.
Scalable architecture.
Highly organized, thoughtful front‐end architecture that scales smoothly from small to large projects, over time, based on DoCSSa methodology and more than a decade of experience.
